    Bambelela is a renowned wildlife rehabilitation and conservation center situated in the Waterberg district of South Africa. Established in December 2003, Bambelela is privately owned and operated, specializing in the care and rehabilitation of Vervet monkeys. Since 2008, Bambelela has successfully released 29 troops comprising over 1000 Vervet monkeys to safe habitats on Bushveld farms in Limpopo. The center also offers volunteer programs and internships designed for nature enthusiasts, conservationists, veterinary students, and veterinary nurses.

    Job description

    This program offers the unique opportunity to fully integrate into our dedicated care team, engaging in various aspects of animal husbandry including the care of local wildlife and primates such as Vervet Monkeys and Chacma Baboons. Responsibilities encompass the daily care of all resident primates, including food preparation, feeding, and nurturing of infants and disabled residents. Additionally, tasks involve the daily maintenance and cleaning of enclosures and the farm, essential for the smooth operation of our bustling Bushveld Farm.

    As part of “The 3 Big Rs” – Rescue, Rehabilitate, Release – you will respond to emergency calls concerning Vervets and other wildlife in need of our facility. Your duties will extend to assisting our medic with triage and medical care, which may include intensive care and aftercare as necessary.

    During baby season, your role will involve aiding in the care of Vervet orphans brought into our care. This includes rotating shifts in our nursery, assisting with bottle feeding, maintaining cleanliness, and participating in night duties, providing the necessary love, support, and security for these vulnerable animals to heal from the trauma that led them to Bambelela.


    2 months – 3 years.

    Internship Rate

    Monthly fees: 1 – 6 months @ 15000Rand per month. Next 7 – 12 months @ 10000R per month.
